Medvedev, a long-time close ally of the President Vladimir Putin He says Moscow is fighting “crazy drug addicts Nazis, people drugged and intimidated by them, and large groups of dogs barking from Western kennels” in Ukraine.
Medvedev, who is now vice-president of the Russian Security Council led by Putin, is known to have described himself as a liberal modernist when he was president of Russia in 2008-2012.
In his latest statement on Russia’s National Unity Day, Medvedev said that Russia has “gained sacred power” and has a duty to stop what he called the “supreme ruler of hell”.
He also said that Moscow had several weapons in the fight, including the ability to send enemies into the fire of “Gehenna,” a Hebrew term often translated as hell. Medvedev’s statement is figurative and does not clearly explain what he means.
“We have the opportunity to send all enemies into fiery Gehenna, but this is not our job. We listen to the creator’s words in our hearts and obey them,” he said.
