Putin’s allies call the destruction of the world before the eyes, why?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ever since Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened the possibility of a nuclear war, political and military leaders have weighed the scenario for the final outcome.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned that although the allies never planned to use nuclear weapons, the Russian leader would fight if cornered.

As Ukraine strengthens its defenses and its counterattack continues to undermine Russian troops, Putin’s rhetoric has become more aggressive, threatening nuclear action against the Eastern European nation to protect the territory it recently annexed.

In an interview with NBC NewsLukashenko said that if some “red lines” were crossed in Ukraine, Putin could continue his attack on the country in an even worse way than he has already done.

Lukashenko referred to Putin’s missile attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure that killed civilians, destroyed bridges, buildings and power plants and said that if Putin was cornered, more such attacks could occur.

Lukashenko added that Russia has the most modern weapons and does not need nuclear weapons to win the war. He said that he believed that the threat of nuclear war was only a political motivation, but that if that were the case, destruction would occur and not just in Ukraine.

“This will be the end of our planet. If nuclear weapons are used by even one country, a chain reaction will occur. Russia understands this well and no one, I want to emphasize, I know for sure from President Putin himself, no , this sets the goal of using nuclear weapons, “he said News weekSaturday (15/10/2022).

However, Michael Kimmage, professor and chair of the history department of the Catholic University of America, told Newsweek that Lukashenko is a Kremlin ally and his message could only be intimidating.

Kimmage said the message could also be a response to President Joe Biden’s statement on how the United States would intervene if necessary and the announcement by the European Union (EU) that it would support a direct attack on the Russian military if it had been used nuclear warfare.

“It wasn’t an accident. He was in close coordination with the Kremlin,” Kimmage said.

Kimmage said the message had two purposes, namely to trigger an emotional reaction because nothing else had worked in Russia’s war against Ukraine and to be used primarily for domestic consumption in Russia.

“We are tough, we are not holding back, we have weapons,” they sent a message to themselves, “he added.

However, Kimmage told Newsweek that Lukashenko may not be wrong. If a nuclear war were to occur later, it could lead to a major US escalation.

“It is difficult to imagine that Russia would not respond with an escalation of its own, much more frightening than the Cuban missile crisis,” he said.

Kimmage said Russia’s only tactic could be to wait for winter, watch the damage to the European economy and see if Ukraine’s support from allies weakens.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Lukashenko urged political parties to find a peaceful solution to the war, touting its benefits to all countries, including the United States.
