Putin withdraws Wagnerians from Ukraine – News

Wagner’s group has 50,000 soldiers and was a key part of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he recalls Daily Mail.

Now this group is to be replaced by mobilized Russian soldiers numbering 300,000 who are to fight in Ukraine. Prigozhin has reportedly already stopped recruiting prisoners and will withdraw his fighters in the next few weeks, according to Daily Mail sources.

The decades-long close relationship between Vladimir Putin and Yevgeny Prigozhin seems to be a thing of the past.

The war in Ukraine

“The relationship suffered cracks after Prigozhin openly criticized the Russian military, and at certain points was even abusive towards senior Russian military officials,” said Bruce Jones, a fellow at New York University’s Center for International Cooperation.

He claims that criticism of the Russian armed forces and its command is seen as an insult to the Russian president, “who now sees him as a potential rival.”

No peace efforts

“We see no signs at all that President Putin is preparing for peace… We see that President Putin and Russia still want to control Ukraine. We see them sending more and more troops and weapons to the front line,” Jones said.

Log server The Mirror notes that Putin’s relations with another Kremlin ally, Ramzan Kadyrov, or Russian general Sergei Surovikin, who was recently demoted, have also cooled.

Both are considered potential conspirators against Putin, writes The Mirror.

Russia is planning a major new offensive to regain momentum in a war that has been at a stalemate since last year’s Ukrainian counter-offensive.
