Putin will not participate in the G20 summit, but Lavrov / Diena will

Indonesian President Joko Widodo had invited Putin to this summit, which will be held on November 15 and 16 in Bali, but the Kremlin has not yet approved Putin’s plans.

“The Russian foreign minister will come in person,” said Jodi Mahardi, press secretary of the Indonesian Ministry of Investments, in charge of coordinating the summit.

Lavrov had left the G20 foreign ministers meeting in Bali in July when other participants condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Widodo said on Tuesday that 17 leaders confirmed their attendance at the summit, including US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several Western countries have called for the expulsion of Russia from the G20 due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky will attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit, but it will likely take place online via videoconference, presidential press secretary Serhiy Nikiforov said Tuesday.

Zelensky has not left Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

Zelensky announced on November 3 that neither he nor any other representative of Ukraine will attend the summit if Putin does.
