The Russian president spoke with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz

Russia is ready for a dialogue on Ukraine if all its demands are met. This was stated today by Russian President Vladimir Putin to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a telephone conversation, the Kremlin said. Putin “reaffirmed that Russia is open to dialogue with the Ukrainian side, as well as with all those who want peace in Ukraine. But provided that all Russian demands are met,” the statement said.

The Russian president denied that Russian troops had bombed Ukrainian cities and called the information false. Putin said reports of “alleged ongoing air strikes on Kyiv and other major cities were gross propaganda forgeries,” the Kremlin said in a statement. He added that dialogue on Ukraine will be possible only if Russia’s demands are met.

Putin “confirmed that Russia is open to dialogue with the Ukrainian side, as well as with all those who want peace in Ukraine, but on condition that all Russian demands are met.” These include Ukraine’s neutral and non-nuclear status, its “denazification”, the recognition of Crimea as part of Russia and the “sovereignty” of separatist territories in eastern Ukraine.

“It was hoped that during the planned third round of talks, Kyiv representatives would take a sensible and constructive stance,” the Kremlin added. The next meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations is expected over the weekend, according to one of Kyiv’s negotiators.
