Putin to Visit China for Belt and Road Forum Amid International Arrest Warrant

It is reported that Putin has accepted Chinese President Xi Jinping’s invitation to attend the Belt and Road Forum and the Kremlin is preparing for Putin’s visit. It is Putin’s first international visit since the arrest warrant, other than to the Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine, neighboring countries of the former Soviet Union and to Iran, which supplies drones to his military.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will reportedly visit China in October to participate in the Belt and Road Forum. This is the first foreign visit since the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Putin on charges of war crimes (in Ukraine). Bloomberg has released a report on this. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not respond to the report.

Last week, Putin did not attend the BRICS summit in South Africa after announcing that an ICC warrant for his arrest would be implemented. Putin has also pulled out of the G20 summit to be held in New Delhi in September. Putin also did not attend the G-20 summit held in Bali last year. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov took Putin’s place at the BRICS summit in South Africa and the G-20 summit in Bali.

BJP made Narendra Modi Terminator

According to the Bloomberg report, Putin is only willing to visit countries that fully guarantee his security, and China is one of those places. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier this month that he hoped to hold talks with Putin in August. But in the event, Erdogan plans to travel to Sochi, Russia next week to meet Putin.

In March, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Putin in connection with war crimes related to the abduction of children from Ukraine. The international tribunal in The Hague found Putin responsible for the war crime of illegal deportation of people and the illegal transfer of people from occupied territories in Ukraine.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, Putin has traveled only to neighboring former Soviet Union countries and Iran. Putin visited China in February 2022 before launching the military offensive in Kiev. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Moscow in March this year. Putin’s visit to China comes months after Xi Jinping visited Moscow.
