Putin Threatens NATO with Collision and Nuclear Weapons over Alleged Attack by Ukraine: Kremlin

Putin announced that the country is ready for a collision with NATO if necessary

The Kremlin threatened nuclear weapons after drones struck two buildings in Moscow on Sunday, Western media reported. Authorities in Russia blamed Ukraine and described the attack as an “attempted terrorist attack from Kiev”.

“Our armed forces, repelling the counteroffensive of the collective enemy, protect the citizens of Russia and our land. But in addition, they prevent a world conflict”, wrote the deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, in a telegram.

In his words, if the Ukrainian “offensive with the support of NATO is successful and they seize part of our land”, then they will use nuclear weapons. “There is simply no other way out,” he says, explaining that “our enemies must pray to our military. They prevent the global nuclear fire from igniting.”

“Tonight there was an attack by Ukrainian drones. The facades of two high-rise office buildings were damaged. There are no victims or injured,” Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin wrote in a telegram.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that they shot down three Ukrainian drones – one in the outskirts, and the other two – in the affected business district “Moscow-City”. The agency also claimed that the Russian military thwarted an attempt by Ukraine to attack Crimea with 25 drones that evening.

“Sixteen Ukrainian UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles – UAVs) were destroyed by air defense fire. Another nine were shot down by means of radio-electronic warfare and

without reaching the target, crashed in the Black Sea”, their statement said.

The “Moscow-City” district is located right next to the Kremlin and is known for its modern architecture, and one of the buildings hit houses three ministries – of economy, industry and trade, as well as digital development, telecommunications and mass media. After the attack, piles of government documents were strewn across the street in front of the building. The attack took place hours before Russia’s Navy Day, with Medvedev in a telegram congratulating the fleet and stating that the “Poseidon unmanned ship” joins the congratulations and recommends to

the enemies of our country to pray for the health of all Russian sailors”

The first time Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned the development of Poseidon, he emphasized that such drones can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear warheads.

Putin was part of the fleet parade in St. Petersburg, accompanied by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

“Today, Russia confidently fulfills the large-scale tasks of our national maritime policy and consistently increases the strength of our fleet. This year alone, 30 ships of different classes are being added to the fleet,” he said during the ceremony.

The Russian leader added that his country is ready for a conflict with NATO “if someone asks for it”, but that at the moment there is no desire for clashes on both sides. He insisted that Russia “has never refused peace talks” with Ukraine. However, Putin has said that they are impossible while Kiev’s decree banning talks with him, signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in October 2022, is in force.
