Putin takes another blow, another Russian general dies

KIEV – President Vladimir Putin another hit after another general Russia reported dead in Ukraine . So far, four Russian generals have been reported killed during the invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in person the death of a Russian general in battle. He did not name the officer, but an adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said Major General Oleg Mityaev had been killed by the far-right Azov Battalion.

“General Mityaev was killed near Mariupol,” Ukrainian media said BBCThursday (17/3/2022).

He is the fourth general to be reported killed, leading some to ask why senior members of the Russian military are so close to the front.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, someone in President Zelensky’s inner circle said Ukraine has a military intelligence team dedicated to targeting the Russian officer class.

“They are looking for famous generals, pilots, artillery commanders,” the man told the newspaper.

Analysts believe that about 20 generals are leading the Russian operation in Ukraine, meaning that if all reported deaths are confirmed, a fifth of the Russian generals have been killed in action.
