Vladimir Putin was inaugurated as president of Russia this Tuesday in his fifth term that will leave him at the head of the country for the next six years. This inauguration took place during a ceremony held in the Grand Kremlin Palace, as reported by the Russian news agency. Tass and EFE.
Context. Putin has been the president of Russia since 2000 and was re-elected on March 17 with more than 87% of the votes. With this re-election, Putin will continue to lead the Government until 2030, which would mean 30 consecutive years of presidency.
- Putin made a change to the constitution in 2020 to eliminate the regulation that prevented him from continuing to lead the country for more terms. Through this modification Putin will be able to remain at the head of Russia until 2036, as reported of the BBC.
- Putin’s re-election as president has occurred in a climate marked by his third year in the invasion of Ukraine and by the death of his opponent, Alexei Navalny, in prison last February.
- On March 18, Putin held a meeting with the rest of the candidates running for the presidential elections in Russia, such as indicate from the government.
Putin invested as president for the fifth time. After the oath that Putin has taken of his office before the heads of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the procedure dictates a series of ceremonies to be celebrated in his new appointment as president:
- Putin will give a speech in the throne room of Tsar Nicholas I.
- The head of the Constitutional Court, Valeri Zorkin, will present him with a gold cross with the coat of arms of Russia, as a presidential symbol.
- Putin will be blessed as president in the Kremlin’s Annunciation Cathedral.
