Putin strengthens security after the Crimean bridge explosion incident

Russian President Vladimir Putin act immediately after the accident explosion which caused the deaths of 3 victims occurred in Crimean bridge. Putin is now strengthening security on some infrastructure between Crimea and Russia.

As reported by APNews, on Sunday (9/10/2022), until now there is no one responsible for the explosion that killed three people in the symbol of Russian power. However, the head of the Russian-backed regional parliament in Crimea accused Ukraine of designing it.

But Moscow does not blame Ukraine even though Ukrainian officials have repeatedly threatened to attack the bridge. Ukraine has also repeatedly praised the devastation that took place on Russian soil.

The explosion, which according to Russian authorities was caused by a truck bomb, risks a sharp escalation in the eight-month war between Russia and Ukraine. Several Russian lawmakers have asked President Vladimir Putin to declare a “counter-terrorism operation”, omitting the term “special military operation”.

Responding to these pressures, Putin signed a decree on Saturday evening (8/10) to strengthen the security of the bridges and energy infrastructure between Crimea and Russia. Putin has also entrusted the effort to the Russian federal security service, the FSB.

Then, hours after the explosion, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that General Aviation Chief Sergei Surovikin would now command all Russian troops in Ukraine. Surovikin, who was assigned to lead the troops in southern Ukraine this summer, led Russian forces into Syria and is accused of overseeing the bombing that devastated much of Aleppo.

3 people killed

Earlier, Russian investigators reported that three people died in the explosion that shook the Crimean bridge. Identified the owner of the exploded truck on the road on the bridge connecting Crimea to mainland Russia.

“According to preliminary information, three people have died,” the Russian Investigation Commission said in a statement.

The Russian Investigation Commission said the bodies of two of the victims, a man and a woman, had been evacuated from the ocean under the bridge. The two are thought to be “passengers in a car that was near the exploding truck”.

It was not explained further on the third death toll. It was only mentioned that the identities of the three dead victims were further confirmed.
