Putin sees Xi Jinping: “China-Russia bond strong in a chaotic world”

(Adnkronos) – Relations between China and Russia and the “strengthened” ties between the two countries for global “stability” were at the center of the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping at the Brics summit in Kazan.

The Russian president stressed to his Chinese counterpart that he wants to further “strengthen” ties with Beijing, which he considers a “stability factor” on the international scene. “Russia and China intend to strengthen their cooperation to ensure stability,” Putin said, while the Chinese president underlined to his Russian colleague the strength of relations between the two countries in a “chaotic” international context.

“The world is undergoing profound changes, unprecedented in a century. The international situation is chaotic, but I firmly believe that the deep friendship that binds China and Russia from generation to generation will not change,” Xi said after meeting Putin during the Brics summit underway in Kazan.

Xi recalled that the two countries “have continuously deepened and expanded overall strategic coordination and practical cooperation in various fields.” These ties have “contributed to the well-being of the Chinese and Russian peoples and made significant contributions to the defense of international fairness and justice,” Xi said.

As regards the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, China – Xi Jinping recalled – calls for peace talks and respect for the territorial integrity of all countries, including Ukraine, but has never condemned Russia; since then the economic, diplomatic and military relations between Beijing and Moscow have even strengthened.
