Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated to Germany that he is ready to enter into talks about the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalni.

In a letter on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of German reunification, addressed to Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Putin said he was willing to discuss current issues between the two countries, including international ones.
The poisoning of Navalni further strained German-Russian relations. Merkel paid a visit to Navalni in the Charité hospital, and after that visit again asked for clarification from Russia about what happened to Navalni. Moscow, in turn, called on Germany to cooperate.
Navalni became very ill on a domestic flight in Russia on August 20. He was later taken to Germany for treatment. There he was in an artificial coma for weeks. Labs in Germany, France and Sweden concluded that the opposition leader has been poisoned with the novichok nerve poison.
