Putin said that demands for security guarantees from the United States and NATO are not an ultimatum

Russian President Vladimir Putin denies that Moscow’s demands for so-called “security guarantees” are an ultimatum to the United States and NATO. According to him, only “ill-wishers” interpret Russian statements in this vein.

“We already see that some of our ill-wishers, frankly speaking, interpret this as an ultimatum from Russia. Is this an ultimatum or not? Of course not,” he said at a meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry board.

At the same time, as Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Gavrilov stressed, if the West does not respond to Russian proposals on security guarantees, then Moscow has a “plan B”.

“Plan B, of course, is provided by the leadership. And no one would like to resort to it. This is not an ultimatum – this is a tough requirement, which is inspired by circumstances and time,” he said.
