Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered that measures be taken by March 31 to bring payments for Russian gas to unfriendly countries in rubles, news agencies report.
It is specified that for this purpose changes will be made in “the current contracts for the supply of natural gas in their part for the currency of payment, switching to Russian rubles, while maintaining the established contractual volumes of supplies, prices and pricing principles.” .
The Bank of Russia has been ordered to ensure that payments are made in rubles, “including the purchase by Russian gas buyers of Russian rubles on the domestic foreign exchange market.”
On Sunday, EU High Representative Josep Borrell announced the EU’s readiness to reduce its gas and oil dependence on Moscow, adding that the bloc would be able to give up Russian gas completely within two years.
