Vladimir Putin announced that Russia had launched a new type of medium-range ballistic missile over Ukraine. He made a video speech to the nation and announced that the new Oreshnik missiles are moving at such a high speed that the existing anti-missile shields cannot be blocked.
According to him, Moscow’s actions are a response to the permission that Kiev received a few days ago from the United States and the United Kingdom – to use their long-range missiles against targets in Russia. And he warned that if he continued to fire these missiles on Russian territory, he could direct his “Oreshnik” to American and British military sites.
“The test in a combat setting of the Oreshnik missile system is a response to the aggressive actions of NATO countries against Russia. Our subsequent actions in the use of this system depend on the actions of the United States and its satellites,” Putin said.
Earlier, Ukraine said it was an intercontinental ballistic missile. However, this has not been confirmed. They were launched early in the morning, from the region of Astrakhan in Russia, near the Caspian Sea.
Earlier this week, the US allowed Ukraine to use its “ATACMS” on targets in Russia. A little later, Kiev began to launch the British “Storm Shadow” on Russian territory.
