The Kremlin threatened Ukraine with the loss of statehood if the conflict in Donbas is resolved by military means.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to discuss bilateral relations with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, but he will not communicate with him as a party to the conflict in Donbass. This was stated by Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov on December 26, writes Interfax.
“You know that Zelensky wants to discuss with Putin as a party to the conflict … The issue of settlement is not a question for Putin. Putin says that if you want to communicate, let’s talk about bilateral relations,” Peskov said.
He also threatened Ukraine with the loss of statehood if the conflict in Donbass is resolved by military means.
“This is what President Putin has repeatedly said, and this is what they know very well in Kiev, this is what they know very well in Washington. But you see, for some reason no one wants to curb Kiev,” Peskov said.
According to the Kremlin speaker, Russia has never attacked anyone. “Russia was never the first to attack anyone. Remember history. They wanted to make us a victim, but, thank God, no one succeeded,” said Peskov, answering the question whether Russia would attack Ukraine.
In early December, Russian President Vladimir Putin, explaining the accumulation of troops near the Ukrainian border, said that Russia needs legal guarantees that NATO will not expand to the east. Among other things, he demands that Ukraine not be admitted to NATO. More about this in the material. Nowhere to retreat.
Previously, Peskov has repeatedly said that Russia is ready discuss with Ukraine “cooperation” on Crimeabut not belonging to the peninsula.
