Although now many states are evading the work of revealing the crimes of the German Nazis during the Great Patriotic War, Russia will continue to do so. This statement was made today, January 26, by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar and head of the Federation of Jewish Communities Alexander Boroda on the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Putin noted that he is aware of the respectful position of Israel towards the role of the Red Army in the victory over Nazism, and the Russian side highly appreciates it. At the same time, the investigative bodies of the Russian Federation, the prosecutor’s office, are still working to identify the crimes of the Nazis.
“Of course, this work will be and is a significant contribution to revealing the crimes of Nazism and against the Jews themselves. It is also known that Jewish organizations around the world support such work on our part. We are doing everything to ensure that this is supported at the international level as well. Unfortunately, under various pretexts, many countries evade working in solidarity in this important area. But we, regardless of the current political situation, will continue to do so,” Putin said.
As reported EADaily in May Berl to Lazarus I didn’t like the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, which refers to the support of the Israeli leadership for the “neo-Nazi regime” in Kyiv, where “anti-Semitism … flourished”. According to Lazar, “it’s different.” He was also outraged by the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov, who stated that “the most ardent anti-Semites are, as a rule, Jews”. As a result, Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel Bennett’s naphthalene apologized for the words of Lavrov. And Bennett himself canceled mass parades and marches on May 9, because a “delicate situation” developed around the holiday, and an anti-Russian campaign was launched in the Israeli media about the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
