Russia has banned 963 Americans from entering the country, including President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and CIA chief William Burns, Reuters reported. The ban has only a symbolic effect, but is indicative of the steady deterioration of relations between Russia and the United States and its allies since February 24, Nova TV reported.
26 Canadians were also banned from entering Russia, including the wife of the Canadian prime minister and the commanders-in-chief of the air, naval and ground forces, TASS reported, citing the foreign ministry.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry said that the ban was in response to the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the Canadian authorities, “which affect not only government officials but also the military and business community, and in many cases their closest relatives.”
“New retaliatory measures will soon follow in response to hostile actions by Canada’s ruling Justin Trudeau regime,” the Russian foreign ministry warned.
