The United States announced new military aid to Ukraine, including the Patriot missile system, during President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington.
Although the Patriot missile system is widely considered advanced, President Vladimir Putin considers it “pretty old”, saying Moscow will find a way to counter it.
“They said they could send the patriots there, well, we will destroy the patriots too,” Putin said, adding that sending it would only prolong the battle.
“Those who do it in vain only prolong the conflict,” he said ABC.net.auFriday (23/12/2022).
Putin also said that stockpiles of Soviet-made weapons former Warsaw Pact members had supplied to Ukraine were “almost depleted,” claiming that Ukraine’s military industry had effectively been destroyed.
He said Russia is capable of increasing its weapons production.
Putin acknowledged Russia was experiencing shortages of some weapons, especially drones and stray munitions, but said he would ramp up production.
