Former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone apparently had only good things to say about his close friend Putin when he visited a British TV show on Thursday.
Among other things, Ecclestone described Russia’s president as “sensible” and “a first-class person” who “thought he was doing the right thing for Russia.”
The comments created strong reactions and a spokesperson for Formula 1 has now shared a statement about it all. It writes Sky News.
– A disgusting sight
Strong contrast
A recent statement emphasized that Eccelstone’s opinions are his own and not on behalf of Formula One.
– The comments from Bernie Ecclestone are his personal views and stand in stark contrast to the position of the modern values of our sport, it says in the statement according to Sky News.
91-year-old Ecclestone and President Putin have been good friends since Russia won its own Grand Prix, in Sochi in 2014.
However, Ecclestone admitted that the decision to invade Ukraine was a mistake on Putin’s part.
– Unfortunately, he is like many business people, like me. We make mistakes from time to time, and when you make the mistake, you must do the best you can to get out of it.
