Putin invites Maduro to BRICS meeting in October

Caracas. Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro to attend a meeting of the BRICS group in the Russian city of Kazan on October 23-24 to consider areas of multilateral cooperation, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil said on Friday.

“I am sure that your personal participation will enrich the upcoming discussion, help identify promising areas of multilateral cooperation for the benefit of the world majority and will undoubtedly contribute to further progressive development of Russian-Venezuelan relations,” says the letter posted by Gil on the social network X.

According to the letter, the BRICS meeting will provide a “constructive impetus to resolve current problems on the regional and global agendas” and will also favor the consolidation of collective efforts to build a fair and democratic system of international relations.

Venezuela hopes to join the group founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa this year at the summit in Kazan.

Caracas said it will be a reliable partner of the BRICS with “proven loyalty” and the principles of independence, friendship, solidarity and shared interests advocated by the organization.

The Venezuelan government said it hopes to provide its natural resources to the bloc’s countries to promote common projects for economic development.

On January 1, Russia assumed the rotating presidency of the BRICS group for 2024, a year that began with the admission of new members.

The Russian presidency of the group is based on the motto of strengthening multilateralism for the sake of fair and secure global development.
