President Vladimir Putin told Western ambassadors that Russia remains committed to mutually beneficial cooperation, but wants a just world order, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
Putin, who recently met with ambassadors from many countries including Japan, Canada and Israel, said Russia was against “illegal” sanctions and restrictions.
Putin said that only those who do not know his history and do not understand the strength of unity can build false calculations about defeating Russia, said TASS.
“The largely hostile course taken by several Western countries towards escalating and expanding the conflict in Ukraine in order to strategically influence our country is deeply flawed,” he said,” he said they do not know and do not want to know the history of Russia, they do not pay attention to the unity, strength of spirit and cohesion of the Russian people,” said Putin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained to national television the value of diplomacy with the participation of ambassadors from unfriendly countries at a ceremony to present the credentials of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, TASS noted.
“We are not breaking our diplomatic relations, and perhaps that is the value of diplomacy,” Peskov said in a televised comment. “The president repeated that Russia remains open to any contacts, to negotiations, even on the most difficult issues.”
The Russian leader’s spokesman pointed out that it was not Russia that initiated the “reduction of relations almost to zero” with several countries.
“But diplomatic channels are still open and this is our chance all the time,” concluded Peskov.
