Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of General Staff Gerasimov to put the containment forces on special combat duty. Putin explained that he was making the move “in response to aggressive actions and statements by the West.” The Russian president said he was doing so because of EU economic sanctions and “because of the aggressive speech of some NATO countries”.
In the Russian army, deterrents include nuclear weapons and hypersonic Dagger and Zircon missiles.
Less than an hour later, a comment came from America. Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield described as “unacceptable an escalation” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order to bring the Russian military’s deterrent forces into special combat duty in response to aggressive statements by the West. “This means that President Putin continues to escalate this war in a completely unacceptable way, and we must continue to stop his actions in the strongest possible way,” Thomas Greenfield was quoted as saying by CBS television.
