As reported by CNN Turk, Erdogan made such a statement during a meeting of Turkey’s ruling party. The meeting discussed the development of the Turkish military industry.
“Putin said: ‘Let’s work together with Baykar.’ The United Arab Emirates offered me: “We can build a Baykar factory.”
Baykar is a Turkish military industrial company that produces Bayraktar combat drones.
In 2020, these drones proved to be a very effective weapon during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, they have been effectively used by the Ukrainian armed forces, which have dozens of “Bayraktar” drones at their disposal.
Fundraising campaigns have been launched in Western countries to help Ukrainians buy more drones and fight the invaders more effectively. For example, in Lithuania were collected six million euros for the purchase of the “Bayraktar” drone, but the Turkish company decided to give it to Ukraine for free.
Although Turkey supplies arms to Ukraine, it has avoided taking sides in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Turkish President Erdogan is trying to act as a mediator, for example, an agreement was reached through Turkey on the resumption of Ukrainian grain exports from Black Sea ports.
Currently, it is not yet clear whether Russia will fulfill the agreement and will not put obstacles to the export of Ukrainian grain. Already on the first day after the agreement, Russia violated it, with missiles shelling the port of Odessa.
It has also become known that on August 5, Erdogan will pay a one-day visit to Russia. He is expected to go to Sochi, where he will meet with Putin.
CONTEXT:
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to start invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine. Putin claimed that NATO was going to use Ukraine as a springboard for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims. Ukraine believes that Putin’s real goal is to destroy Ukrainian statehood and bring the territory under Moscow’s control.
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has caused a general condemnation of the international communityagainst Russia more and more sanctions are introduced. Many western companies have decided to leave the Russian market.
