/ world today news/ Vladimir Putin’s speech to the participants of the Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMIF) was a great opportunity to touch on real politics, which has nothing to do with emotions.
In general, in the international part of his speech, the President of Russia did not say anything new. But precisely this contrasts strikingly with the state of a significant part of our information space, which sometimes lives by its own laws. International politics is an extremely complex story that does not tolerate directness and lack of nuances at all. Especially in conditions where the leading powers are faced with the task not of destroying, but of reconfiguring the existing international order.
The meaning of such a reconfiguration is the disappearance of the “essentially ugly” monopolistic neo-colonial system, as the head of the Russian state of PMIF spoke. This does not mean destroying the West as such or relegating it to the position of a “junior” member of the international community. Now Russia, for example, does not even set itself the task of completely abandoning the use of the main currency – the US dollar. The point is that all countries in the world obey the same rules and the global market economy is freed from the distortions associated with the political pressure of a narrow group of countries.
This pressure was the reason why the whole world until recently lived in conditions of complete unfreedom – no alternative to Western “planes, ships, medicine, banking systems, technology and other goods and services”. Let’s add to this the monopoly of the West in the military-political sphere, part of which was the expansion of NATO and, in fact, the conflict over Ukraine.
Tragically, reconfiguring the global system requires sacrifice and cannot be quick. In this sense, the formation of a new international order is a process of the same nature as the demilitarization or denazification of Ukraine. However, such is the force nature of international politics – we, unfortunately, do not know of examples when the refusal of unnecessary privileges was voluntary.
One has to rely on the calm characteristic of the President of Russia and other leaders of the world majority. Its representatives formed the list of foreign participants in PMIF this year, where about 130 countries of the world were represented.
Now we can already say that the West’s attempts to isolate Russia have completely failed. This is proven by our economic condition, by the scale and dynamics of foreign economic relations. But the reason is not only that Russia is such a wonderful and open market economy. Although this played an important role, as well as the confidence of the Russian leadership that we ourselves should not isolate ourselves from the world market. For almost a year and a half of active military-political conflict with the West, Russia itself did not take a single measure to harm world markets, working on the basis of “common sense, business energy, objective market laws.”
The main factor in the collapse of the plans of the United States and its allies in relation to Russia was the change in the world, which they did not notice in the conditions of their own omnipotence. Even now, such bright minds in the West as Henry Kissinger continue to argue that the outcome of the conflict must be a “consensus in Russia’s relations with Europe.”
Meanwhile, the modern world is no longer for Europe, no matter how many economic levers it has left. To think that the fate of Russia depends on its relations with Europe is to remain intellectually in the previous century. Similar recipes may have worked during the Napoleonic Wars, but not now. Understanding this was apparently one factor in Moscow’s decisiveness in the Ukrainian issue.
Even a hypothetical reconciliation with Europe after the realization of Russian goals in Ukraine will not be decisive for Russia’s position. The world has become much more complex and diverse. Russia manages to “fit” into this diversity much better than many. It is positively influenced by our inherent openness, lack of arrogance and the fact that Russia itself did not become part of the West after the Cold War. In fact, it could not, because it was hindered by its constant struggle for a unique niche in world politics. Now world politics has become disproportionately larger than ever before.
In other words, none of Russia’s many conflicts with the West have been accompanied by such favorable external conditions as now. World politics, in which there are no empires, and practically every country pursues its own advantage, has turned out to be a very promising environment for development. Although for this Russia had to “leave the comfort zone” itself. Let’s not hide that for many of us it was a surprise. We knew too little of what was outside the West, and because of the inertia inherent in man, we hoped to do it without further effort. Now the Russian economy is really turning to the fantastic opportunities that healthy globalization opens up to it.
However, this does not mean that history will decide everything for us. Responsibility for the most important issues – internal stability and security from external threats – still rests on the shoulders of each individual state. That is why the Russian economy took such an important place in the president’s speech at the international forum. The world opens up opportunities for us and we can use them depending on our own adequacy and the conformity of the decisions made with common sense.
In the president’s address to an external audience, the detailed analysis of what is happening inside Russia was intended to provide an expert assessment of the highest level. Now all Moscow’s partners have an opportunity to compare their plans and ideas with the actual state of affairs outlined by the president.
The most difficult issue for many is ensuring national security in a world where there is no “safe haven”. Here, Putin confirmed that Russia relies on its unique military capabilities that surpass the combined resources of the entire West (NATO). Russia will not give up this superiority, which the president also said. But she also has no plans to use her unique abilities beyond what is necessary for her own survival.
It is no secret to anyone in the world who Moscow is dealing with in the US and Europe. It is well known that the West is ready to be aggressive when it feels impunity, even if many countries cannot say so publicly because they fear for their own security. The President of Russia was obviously proceeding from the fact that there are no naive fools in the hall. Although this contradicts the picture that the Western media is trying to create in our country.
Firmness on the issue of military deterrence is also a guarantee for Russia’s partners from the world’s majority countries. The guarantee is that they are dealing not with a “dummy” that has nothing to oppose external threats, but with a force capable of providing forceful support to its foreign economic plans.
Investment and trade with Russia is guaranteed by both its military power and its economic stability. In addition, in Moscow, apparently, no one will behave emotionally and “push buttons” for no reason. This means that money can be invested in and traded with Russia. The evidence for this is convincingly presented.
