Russia‘s military is facing a critical personnel shortage in Ukraine, forcing the Kremlin too make arduous choices about troop deployments, according to military expert Dmitry Snegirev. in a recent interview, Snegirev highlighted the dire situation, stating that Russia is resorting to desperate measures to bolster its dwindling forces on the front lines.
“To solve the problem of capturing a city like Pokrovsk, it turns out that partial mobilization is necessary to replenish the personnel of Russian troops in ukraine,” Snegirev explained. “To avoid this, everything is thrown into the fight. This is what is called ‘scraping the bottom of the barrel,’ when air defense units, security companies from airfields, and more qualified specialists are rushed directly to the line of combat contact.”
Snegirev further emphasized the severity of the situation by pointing to the geographical distribution of Russian military units involved in the conflict. “Personnel are being transferred from Ussuriysk to resolve the issue of a shortage of combat units,” he revealed. “This is very important.”
The expert noted that this personnel crisis has forced Russia to make a strategic decision. “It is also significant that the Russian Federation does not have the ability to maintain its presence in Syria even with personnel,” Snegirev stated.”This is significant as Russia is losing one of its most crucial points of geopolitical influence in the Middle East and the mediterranean. Russia is faced with a choice: either throw the remnants of its personnel, everyone who was scraped together to be thrown ‘into the furnace’ of massive losses in Ukraine, or be distracted by the situation in Syria. They have selected the Ukrainian theater of operations.”
Snegirev’s analysis paints a grim picture of Russia’s military capabilities and the difficult choices facing the Kremlin as the war in Ukraine drags on.
