Expected meeting between the Russian president Vladimir Putin and the Turkish one Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the resumption of food shipments from Ukraine and the relaunch of the agreement on the export of cereals from the Black Sea from which Moscow exited in July. The earlier deal – brokered by the United Nations and Turkey in July 2022 – had allowed nearly 33 million tonnes of grain and other commodities to leave three Ukrainian ports safely despite Russia’s war. However, Russia broke away arguing that a parallel understanding had not been maintained to the agreement that would remove obstacles to Russian food and fertilizer exports by hampering Moscow’s agricultural trade.
The Sochi summit comes after the one between the foreign ministers of the two countries in which Moscow presented its conditions and requests to the West for exports to resume
