Russian President Vladimir Putin has donated expensive jewelry to a former Austrian minister, AFP reported, citing Austrian media, BTA reported.
These are white gold earrings with sapphires worth 50,000 euros. They were presented to Karin Kneissl in gratitude for inviting Putin to her wedding in August 2018.
Kneisl was foreign minister at the time, nominated by the Austrian Freedom Party. She will remain in office from December 2017 to May 2019. Kneisl invited Putin to his wedding at a time when Austria was rotating the EU. The two danced a waltz together and the photo toured the media around the world.
However, the donated earrings were collected from the Austrian state two years ago.
After leaving the government, Kneisl was appointed to the board of the Russian oil giant Rosneft. She refuses to resign despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
