President Russia Vladimir Putin led the deployment of a fully equipped warship hypersonic cruise missile more recently in the waters of the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean. The ship, he said, was supposed to protect Russia from external threats.
“I am convinced that such a powerful weapon will make it possible to reliably protect Russia from potential external threats and help ensure the national interests of our country,” Putin told Russian news agencies. AFP extensionThursday (5/1/2023).
The warships were deployed to perform training missions in the three waters.
“We will continue to develop the combat potential of our armed forces,” he said.
Putin also said that the warship’s Zircon hypersonic missile system aboard was “unmatched”.
At the launching ceremony of the war frigate named Admiral Gorshkov on Wednesday (4/1) local time, Putin and Defense Minister (Menhan) Sergei Shoigu were also present by video conference.
“The main objective of this mission is to counter threats against Russia and to support regional peace and stability together with friendly countries,” Shoigu said in his statement.
“In the exercise, there will be training for crew members to deploy hypersonic weapons and long-range cruise missiles,” he said.
