On the evening of June 23, the leader of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that the regular Russian army launched a missile attack on the rear camps of mercenaries. Therefore, 25,000 Prigozhin’s mercenaries allegedly go to “restore justice.” On the morning of June 24, Prigozhin said that he had taken control of the military facilities of Rostov-on-Don, in particular the airfield, was going “to Moscow”, and that his soldiers had already shot down three Russian helicopters. Mercenaries of PMC “Wagner” also seized military facilities in Voronezh. Russian President Vladimir Putin in an emergency address said that Russia is “fighting for survival” and the country is trying to “organize a rebellion.” The administration of the President of the Russian Federation feared that in a few hours the Wagnerites of Yevgeny Prigozhin might be close to Moscow, and fighting would begin near the capital. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin urgently left Moscow for Valdai. A column of “Wagnerites” was noticed 400 km from Moscow. On the evening of June 24, after a conversation with the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Prigozhin said that his mercenaries were turning back the columns and heading back to the field camps. Later it became known that the criminal case against Prigozhin would be closed, and he would “leave for Belarus.” According to Russian pro-war media and telegram channels, between 13 and 20 people died as a result of the Wagner rebellion. The Russian army also suffered losses in equipment: according to Important Stories, this three Mi-8 helicopters electronic warfare, one transport Mi-8i two attack helicopters Ka-52 and Mi-35Mand aircraft command post Il-22M and two armored cars KamAZ and “Tiger”. PMC “Wagner” lost two UAZ, one KamAZ and armored car “VPK-Ural”. At the same time, according to the Russian service of Radio Liberty with reference to the calculations of the Dutch project Oryx, during the rebellion, the “Wagnerites” shot down an Il-22M aircraft and six helicopters of the Russian army. Putin acknowledged the death of Russian pilots during the mutiny, but did not make any loud statements about this. The Russian dictator called a meeting with the participation of the heads of law enforcement agencies, but at it he only thanked them for allegedly “suppressing” the rebellion of the Wagner PMC mercenaries. Putin also thanked the “Wagnerites” themselves, allegedly for “not committing fratricidal bloodshed.” Earlier, Russian media wrote that the leader of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, personally arrived in St. Petersburg on July 4, where the weapons seized during the searches were returned to him. It was also reported that Prigozhin was returned 10 billion rubles, which the security forces found during searches in St. Petersburg after an attempted rebellion.
