The president of the Duma or Chamber of Deputies of Russia, Viacheslav Volodinaccused this Thursday the European Parliament to create the conditions for a nuclear war by calling on the countries of the continent to authorize Ukraine the use of long-range missiles against targets on Russian territory.

«Today the European Parliament called on the countries of the European Union to lift restrictions on kyiv’s attacks with long-range weapons against our country, to increase military support for Ukraine and to raise funds among the population for the Ukrainian army. These calls lead to a world war with nuclear weapons.»he wrote on Telegram.

Volodin, a well-known hawk in Russian politics, said that if the use of such weapons is approved, “Russia will respond with much more powerful weapons.”

“No one can be under any illusions about this. The Russian Duma insists on this,” he said.

He attacked the MEPs by questioning whether they had consulted their constituents before making that decision and questioned whether European citizens want war to knock on their doors.

«Before making such a decision, they should have remembered the lessons of World War II. Then 27 million Soviet citizens died fighting fascism»he said, adding that after a decision like today’s, the European Parliament “should dissolve itself.”

To conclude, and to clear up any doubts, Volodin recalled that “the flight time of a Sarmat missile to Strasbourg is 3 minutes and 20 seconds.”

The European Parliament on Thursday urged the EU-27 to allow Ukraine to use the weapons it has sent as part of support against the Russian invasion to attack “legitimate” military targets on Russian territory.

A resolution adopted by 425 votes in favour, 131 against and 63 abstentions calls on member states to “immediately lift all restrictions on the use of Western weapons systems provided to Ukraine against legitimate military targets on Russian territory.”

Last week the Russian president, Vladimir Putinwarned that if NATO authorizes Ukraine to use long-range missiles against targets in Russian territory, it will mean that it will be at war with Russia and Russia will take appropriate measures. EFE (I)
