Divided

Vladimir Putin is known for keeping state guests waiting. But what happens if the tables are turned upside down? Apparently this has happened in the last four meetings.

Moscow – Meeting with Vladimir Putin: for a long time this was considered an idea that certainly unnerved some politicians in advance. The Kremlin ruler is known for playing with his counterparts, no matter how important the heads of state are. Former Chancellor Angela Merkel reported earlier this summer that Putin had attempted to intimidate people at a joint meeting.

Putin meets Erdogan and other heads of state: Twitter editing allows speculation about humiliation

Before Putin meets his guests, preferably at a large negotiating table, he also likes to let them wait alone and alone. This happened in previous meetings with the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth II or former US President Barack Obama. Indeed, the war in Ukraine was only meant to further convince the West of Putin’s power. With the turnaround of the war – Ukraine is currently launching a successful counter-offensive – the situation has apparently also changed with regard to Putin’s position in international meetings. At least if you can believe a Twitter montage that he’s currently making a sensation on the internet.

The image was shared by BBC Russia investigative journalist Andrey Zakharov among others. Shown is a montage of four photographs showing Vladimir Putin before meetings with other heads of state at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting. The images apparently come from broadcasts by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti and are intended to show Putin before individual meetings with the respective heads of state of Kyrgyzstan, India, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Striking: instead of Putin making his partners wait, this time it is he who remains standing. Shift in the balance of power or even collective humiliation for the Kremlin boss? He is discussing it online.

Putin has “a taste of his own medicine”: did four heads of state keep the Kremlin boss waiting?

CNN analyst Bianna Golodryga, for example, retweeted the post and wrote: “Putin is now enjoying his own medicine.” Users already see this as a progressive loss of Putin’s global influence. BBC reporter Zakharov himself wrote about his tweet: “Now the person who is intentionally late for meetings is more likely to appear. What happened? “. In any case, it is not entirely clear how long Putin had to wait for the interlocutor and if there were reasons for the delays or if the actions were intentional. However, a video showed at least prior to a meeting. like Putin had to wait for the Kyrgyz prime minister and didn’t look exactly patient. And even with the photos before Erdogan’s meeting, Putin looks down on his own.

However, there were no reports of waiting times when Putin and Chinese President Xi met, but the meeting of “old friends” seemed extraordinarily meaningless. Meanwhile, the Russian military’s attacks on Ukraine are said to be meaningless. Is Putin starting a tactic of attrition in war? (he)
