Putin has already failed in all of his strategic goals, Scholz said.
Russia’s plan to occupy all of Ukraine today is more unattainable than it was at the beginning of the war, when Ukraine showed impressive defense capabilities, Scholz said.
Putin also underestimated the determination and strength of the Western allies, and Moscow has in fact encouraged Finland and Sweden to join NATO, the German chancellor said.
“Our goal is crystal clear – Putin must not win this war. And I am sure he will not win,” Scholz said.
Sholch, who has spoken to Putin on the phone several times since the start of the war, said Putin would be ready to make a serious peace deal only when he realized that Ukraine’s defenses could not be broken.
And the Western Allies, which are arming Ukraine and imposing heavy sanctions on Russia, will continue to support Kiev, Scholz promised.

At another session of the World Economic Forum, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleb on Wednesday expressed wonders why the arms delivery process is so slow.
“I do not understand why it is so difficult, but I respect the situation in the German government and we are looking forward to the end of this story,” Kuleba said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Kličko also pointed out at the World Economic Forum that things are slow.
“We need quick decisions with weapons, because I want to reiterate that we are not only defending our country, our families, our children, we are defending each of you,” the mayor of Kiev emphasized.
