Putin Blames Ukraine for Kakhovskaya Hydroelectric Power Station Explosion and Discredits Ukrainian Leadership in Information Campaign

“I’ll say a strange thing, but nevertheless: unfortunately, this thwarted their counteroffensive in this direction,” Putin noted. “Unfortunately, why? Because it would be better if they attacked there. it’s bad to attack there. But since such a spill occurred, then, accordingly, the offensive did not take place. ”

At the same time, Putin removed from the Russian Federation the responsibility for undermining the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, blaming Ukraine for this: “We are definitely not interested in this.”

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Russian Federation allocated $6 million for an information campaign to discredit the Ukrainian military-political leadership and blame Ukraine for the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

Context:

On the night of June 6, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, as Ukrhydroenergo said, it cannot be restored. The dam of the Kakhovka reservoir was destroyed, an uncontrolled flood occurred, thousands of houses were flooded.

An evacuation was announced in the Kherson region. In the occupied part of the region, which suffered more from the flood, it failed, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said. At least eight people are known to have died in the occupied territory (in Oleshki).

Zelensky noted that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, the explosion was deliberate, but the enemy acted chaotically, allowing his own equipment to be flooded.

The estimated amount of environmental damage due to the undermining of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the Russians is already more than € 1.5 billion, the Kherson regional police department announced on June 12.

On June 13, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that 31 settlements were flooded on the right bank of the Dnieper, and 17 more on the left (occupied) bank. According to government data, 61 settlements were flooded in two regions – Mykolaiv and Kherson.
