Putin Awards Controversial Z-Blogger with Order of Merit for the Fatherland

Putin awarded the founder of the Z-public “Rybar” Zvinchuk with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.

Putin awarded the founder of the Z-public “Rybar” Zvinchuk with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland. The most interesting thing is that this Z-blogger constantly criticized the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine. However, in this way the Kremlin wants to win over those who once opposed them.

Analysts from Institute for the Study of War reported that on November 16, Putin presented Zvinchuk with one of Russia’s prestigious awards.

Many Z-bloggers congratulated Zvinchuk, at the same time adding that to date this is the first prestigious award that a blogger from the Telegram channel has received. At the end of December 2022, the Kremlin attracted Rybar to the working group on mobilization issues in the Russian Federation. Thus, Putin tried to take control of such an information field as Telegram.

Now Zvinchuk has more than 1.2 million subscribers, and his Telegram channel is quoted not only in the Russian Federation, but also in the West. The Russian publication The Bell reported that the Rybar channel was created in 2018. From 2019 to 2021, the channel was personally sponsored by Yevgeny Prigozhin. In those days, the channel very often published posts beneficial to the Wagner PMC. And since the invasion of Putin’s army into Ukraine, “Rybar” has published controversial posts, often criticizing the Russian Defense Ministry.

Later, the channel began editing videos in support of the Russian Defense Ministry and a new wave of mobilization in Russia. The channel writes that it spends about 4 million rubles on its resource every month, but supposedly all this is covered by a donation to the channel.

Analysts from ISW have noticed a significant shift on Rybar’s part in covering events in Ukraine. Zvinchuk began to appear more and more often on the screens of propaganda television channels. His posts began to contain less criticism of the Russian Defense Ministry.

These shifts did not take place without the personal participation of Putin, who decided to take control of the Russian-language online information space. Zvinchuk’s reward will also likely serve as an attempt to encourage other Z-bloggers to offer their loyalty to the regime in exchange for praise and recognition from the Kremlin.

Earlier, propagandist Soloviev declared war on Montyan’s collaborator, demanding the Kremlin to put her in prison.

Let us recall that British intelligence voiced the reason that prompted Putin not to refuse the annual final press conference in 2023.
