Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russian President Vladimir Putin is considered to have awakened a ‘giant’ who was asleep during an attack on Ukraine. The ‘giants’ were European countries which expressed their opposition to Moscow’s attack on Kyiv.
This was conveyed by European military expert, Nicholas Drummond. He said European countries could undermine Putin’s plans to succeed in Ukraine. In fact, he said, the solidarity that European countries have garnered for Ukraine actually shows that Russia’s plans are doomed.
“Scholz + Germany in partnership with Macron and France, Johnson and Britain, Biden and America, Morawiecki and Poland and many others. It all shows that more unites us than divides us,” he tweeted in early July. .

Drummond also explained the maneuvers of the leaders of Europe and the United States (US) as well as Putin’s plan for a short war which was considered a failure. It is known, the attack has entered the 137th day and Russia is still unable to control the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
“Scholz (had) expressed his commitment to Ukraine as long as they needed German support. This is a clear acknowledgment that Putin will not be allowed to succeed in Ukraine. Putin has awakened a sleeping giant,” he added.
In addition, he also views that Ukraine’s intention to join the US-led defense alliance, NATO, has also threatened the country’s security. The reason is, NATO is a rival to Moscow and Kyiv can attack several areas that have been controlled by Russia since 2014 such as Crimea.
Although smaller in size, Ukraine itself has so far received strong weapon support from European Union countries. Most recently, Germany even sent a self-propelled Howitzer gun to help the country ward off Russia.
Putin himself declared an attack on Ukraine on February 24. He argued that this military action was necessary to protect the country’s Russian-speaking community, which he said had been persecuted by Kyiv nationalists.
