Putin Attends Funeral of Politician Who Predicted Invasion of Ukraine

President Russia Vladimir Putin paid his last respects to the late veteran politician, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who died at the age of 75 this week. Last year, Zhirinovsky was known to have predicted Russian military operations to Ukraine.

As reported AFPFriday (8/4/2022), Zhirinovsky who is called an important figure in the history of Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union is one of the leaders of the opposition in the Russian parliament which is now ‘tame’.

Zhirinovsky’s funeral ceremony was held on Friday (8/4) local time. After mass was held at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, an open casket ceremony was held with Putin placing a bouquet of red roses near Zhirinovsky’s coffin.

Putin then lowered his head for a moment of silence.

Zhirinovksy’s funeral ceremony was held at the Moscow Hall of Columns, where Joseph Stalin was buried in 1953.

Zhirinovksy will then be buried in Moscow on Friday (8/4) afternoon local time.

Known for his frank and confrontational style, Zhirinovksy has been a constant figure in Russian politics for the past three decades and has been steadily advancing in controversy. He founded and led the Russian Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR), one of the main forces in Russia’s parliament, since 1990.
