Putin and Scholz have not yet scheduled phone conversation, says Kremlin spokesperson

A telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has not yet been scheduled, the Russian leader’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said. “No,” he said when asked if one was already planned.

Earlier on Saturday, the German chancellor said he intended to talk to Putin “in the near future.”

The President of the Russian Federation and the Chancellor of Germany have spoken by phone 11 times since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, including three times in a trilateral format with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron. Most of those contacts were last spring. Putin and Scholz last spoke by phone on December 2, 2022. The leaders’ last face-to-face meeting took place in the Kremlin on February 15, 2022.
