“Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron called on the warring parties to stop the fire completely and as soon as possible, to de-escalate tensions and show maximum restraint,” the Kremlin administration said.
In a telephone conversation initiated by Makron, the two presidents discussed “specific parameters for further cooperation, primarily within the OSCE Minsk Group,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
They expressed readiness to reach a joint statement on behalf of the Minsk Group co-chairs Russia, France and the United States, calling for an immediate end to hostilities and the start of talks, the Kremlin added.
During the presidents’ discussion of the situation in Belarus, Putin also told Makron that any attempt to interfere in the affairs of a third country was “unacceptable”.
Putin noted Russia’s principled stance that “any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign state and external pressure on legitimate authorities is unacceptable.”
The telephone conversation took place after Makron met with Belarusian opposition politician Svetlana Tikhanov on Tuesday in Vilnius. The Kremlin statement did not mention the meeting.
