Alexander Lukashenko does not want to appear as the eternal supplicant. Shortly before his visit to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Belarusian ruler dismissed the speculation about a new Russian loan of three billion dollars for his deprived country as a provocation of “liberal media” in Russia. He is keen to be perceived as Putin’s equal partner. The pad on which he takes notes during his welcoming words reveals the opposite.
