Moscow –
President Russia Vladimir Putin blames western countries for the war in Ukraine. President of the United States (US) Joe Biden said no country planned to attack Russia.
Putin blamed the west in his State of the Union address on Tuesday (21/2/2023). The speech was delivered by Putin ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“I am speaking to you at a difficult and important moment for our country, at a time when great changes are taking place everywhere in the world,” Putin said in front of high-ranking officials and Russia’s political elite. BBC.
“Historic events will determine the future of our country, each of us is bound by an enormous responsibility,” he continued.
In his State of the Union address to the Russian parliament, Putin also discussed what he called Russia’s military operations in Ukraine. Putin also blamed the West for the war that occurred.
“Ukraine and Donbass have become symbols of total lies,” said Putin.
He accused the West of pulling out of “fundamental agreements” and making “hypocritical statements” as well as expanding NATO and “covering us with an umbrella”.
“I want to repeat: it is they who are guilty of this war, and we used force to stop it,” Putin said to a standing ovation.
Putin continued his speech by claiming Russia was trying to resolve the conflict in the Donbas region by peaceful means. He said the West’s commitment to peace turned out to be a “deception” and a “cruel lie” while accusing Ukraine of trying to stockpile biological and nuclear weapons.
“We are doing everything possible to resolve this problem peacefully, negotiating a peaceful way out of this difficult conflict, but behind us a very different scenario is being prepared.
“They are [Barat] only buying time, turning a blind eye to political assassinations, the persecution of people of faith,” Putin continued.
Speaker of the Duma or lower house of parliament Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin, also accused the US of destroying international stability. He said the US had stopped honoring commitments and rejected Moscow’s proposals on global security issues.
Reported ReutersWednesday (22/2/2023), the Duma will consider the draft law (bill) proposed by Putin regarding the postponement of Russia’s participation in the New START agreement.
The agreement limits Moscow’s and Washington’s nuclear supplies. The Duma is expected to approve the bill, without much deliberation.
Putin underlined Moscow’s suspension of the nuclear deal with the US as a warning against Ukraine in a State of the Union address delivered Tuesday (21/2) local time. US President Joe Biden himself vowed to continue to support and defend Ukraine ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion.
“By stopping fulfilling its obligations and rejecting our country’s proposals on global security issues, the United States has destroyed the architecture of international stability,” Volodin wrote in a Telegram statement.
“They plunged the world into a situation of conflict and challenge,” he said, referring to the US.
