Germany says Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to receive payments from the EU for gas in euros and dollars.

This was announced on Wednesday, March 30, by German government spokesman Steffen Gebeshtreit following a telephone conversation between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Vladimir Putin, informs German wave.

Therefore, European companies will continue to transfer payments in euros to Gazprombank, which is not subject to sanctions.

According to a spokesman for the German government, Putin said the money would be transferred to Gazprombank and then transferred in rubles to Russia. But Scholz did not agree to such a procedure in a conversation, but asked for written information about this.

Recall March 23 Putin ordered Gazprom convert payments for gas supplies to Europe into rubles. In the same time the G7 countries rejected such a requirement of the Russian Federation. As a result Russia began to threaten to shut off the gas valveif Europe refuses to pay for gas in rubles.

On March 30, it became known that Germany was preparing for a possible blocking of natural gas supplies from Russia by Moscow. As a result, German Economics Minister Robert Gabeck activated the first phase of the plan in the event of a gas emergency.
