DNR leader Denis Pushilin told reporters he saw no reason to pardon foreign mercenaries sentenced to death in the republic, news agencies reported.

The words come after the DNR sentenced Sean Piner, Aiden Aslin and Saadun Brahim, who fought on Ukraine’s side and were captured in Donbas, to death this week.

“First I have to be guided by the court decision that has been taken. By the nature of these paragraphs, of these crimes they have committed, I see no reason, preconditions, to come up with such a decision for pardon,” Pushilin said.

A DNR court on Thursday sentenced Britons Sean Piner and Aidan Aslin, as well as Moroccan Saadun Brahim, to death on charges of involvement in hostilities as part of Ukraine’s mercenary militias. They were captured in Donbass.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of the DNR announced that as a result of the testimony received by Piner, Aslin and Brahim, their participation in the commission of crimes under Part 2 of Art. 34 of the Criminal Code of the DNR (“Committing crimes by a group of persons”), Art. 323 of the Criminal Code of the DPR (“Forcible seizure of power or forcible retention of power”) and Art. 430 of the Criminal Code of the DNR (“Mercenary”).

After the verdict was announced, the chairman of the judicial board said that the convicts have the right to pardon. They can also appeal the sentence within a month.
