Union’s pursuers have taken all three points and thus narrow the gap with the leaders. Ghent and Genk stumbled.
Union lost points against Westerlo on Saturday evening after a questionable intervention by the VAR. Club Brugge was able to beat Eupen on Saturday. Today Antwerp easily passed RWDM and Anderlecht won in Charleroi.
The gap between leader Union and Anderlecht is still eight points. Bruges and Antwerp follow at 15 points.
Anderlecht took the lead very quickly in Charleroi when Van Cleempunt pushed Hazard’s tight cross into his own goal. On the half hour, Hazard was again allowed to kick a cross from the right side. This time it was Dolberg who found the target. But shortly before half time, Dari brought Charleroi back into the match.
In a mediocre second half, Vazquez managed a third goal for the visitors shortly before the end. He blasted a corner kick high into the goal in one go.
The match was stopped for a long time in the second half. Referee Lambrechts had received a ball full in the face and had to be replaced.
In Molenbeek, Antwerp achieved three victories in a row for the first time this season. At half time it was already 0-3 after goals from Alderweireld, Janssen and Ondrejka. After half-time, Alderweireld added another, just like the first from the penalty spot.
RWDM must start paying attention at the bottom. It has four points more than Kortrijk, which is last, and one more than the penultimate, Eupen.
Cercle sneaks into the top 6
Ghent and Genk did poorly in the battle for a spot in the Champions’ Play-offs. Genk played 1-1 at KV Mechelen, Ghent lost at home to Cercle Brugge, which means Cercle now climbs into the top 6 over Ghent.
Denkey scored for Cercle after just five minutes. But Flavio Nazinho quickly made things difficult for his team by receiving a second yellow card in the 23rd minute. Ghent had quite a few chances against ten people from Bruges, but they were unable to score.
Shortly after the break, Laurent Delpoitre did score the equalizer. But in the 67th minute, Denkey scored again and Ghent could not hit back.
