Budget Day would give us more clarity about our purchasing power in 2025. How are we doing, how much will we gain or lose? But due to the debate about the migration crisis and the emergency law, this all snowballed. But it is interesting to know: what will the government’s plans do to our wallets?

To clarify the consequences for our household budget, Arjan Vliegenthart, director of Nibud (National Institute for Budget Information), is a guest in Kassa.

Very little increase in purchasing power

The message for 2025 in a nutshell: most households will benefit from between 1 euro and 50 euro per month. But this is not so much due to government policy but because wages are rising. We have yet to see much of the tax relief promised by the coalition parties. The self-employed and some retirees will be worse off next year.

Nibud sees that the incoming cabinet is analyzing changes and plans that were made before in terms of allocations. “You can see this positively, for example, in the rental portion for 2025. But many people will already have spent the few extra euros they can afford before they realize it,” Vliegenthart predicts.
