Purchasing power, resources allocated to health, public services … Nivernais retirees invited to demonstrate in Paris to make themselves heard

“Our purchasing power is only plummeting. In fifteen years, it has fallen by 15%, ”notes Jean Salagnac, representing the Confederal Union of Retirees (UCR) FO of Nièvre. The equivalent of one month’s pension lost per year, funds allocated to health in decline, public services that do not meet the needs of the elderly … Retirees are fed up and want to know. To the national appeal of a national inter-union of retirees, that of Nièvre, represented by the CGT retirees, the UCR FO, the FSU, Solidaires Retraités, FGR-RP (retirees of the public service) and LSR, invites the retirees from the Nièvre to a large demonstration in Paris, on December 2, at 1:30 p.m., place Denfert-Rochereau, for pensions, health and public services.

10 to 12% loss of purchasing power since 2014

This year, retirement pensions increased by 0.4%. The additional 1%. Too little for the retiree unions. Since 2014, they estimate their loss of purchasing power at 10 to 12%. “There are retirees who make choices every day for lack of resources,” notes Mireille Denègre, representing the CGT retirees. “We are tired of being treated as well-off, of being accused of having ruined everything for the following generations”, reacts Jean Salagnac. “Unlike those who have amassed their fortune by sleeping thanks to the CAC 40, we have earned it by working,” he adds.

They ask for one agent per nursing home resident

The question of the resources allocated to health is also at the heart of the mobilization of Thursday, December 2 in Paris. “The disappearance of 115,000 beds in twenty-five years in hospitals and 100,000 nursing posts in eight years has created a catastrophic situation, with its share of tragedies, especially for retirees who are not considered a priority”, notes the inter-union.
On the question of nursing homes in particular, “while we claim, with the staff, one agent for one resident, the president announces a fantastic increase in staff, within five years, of 1.2 more agents per nursing home”, quips Jean Salagnac.

Creation of a State Secretariat for retirees

Finally, another subject is raising retirees to the niche: public services. The inter-union demands that services be maintained, with staff, including in rural areas. She also regrets the switch to all digital for certain procedures. As well as the disappearance of cash machines in certain municipalities.
To be heard more, retirees would also like the creation of a retiree secretariat. “We are 17 million in this country and there is no interlocutor”, notes Jean Salagnac.
