With the transfer of the purchase price for the area of the Koelnmesse North Site, the City of Cologne has today completed the purchase of the site including all structures. This was preceded by the purchase of the Arealsthe signing of the notarized purchase agreement in July 2024 and the entry of the preliminary notice of transfer in the land register.
The self-operated facility Veranstaltungszentrum Köln (Event Center) has thus acquired the areas in the Deutz district that are important for the city of Cologne for the agreed purchase price of 350 million from Köln Messe 15-18 eGbR (GbR). The approximately 165,000 square meter site includes the CongressCentrum North, the exhibition halls 6-9, five connecting structures, the north entrance and the covered BoulevardDue to its central location and importance for urban development, the site represents a high added value for the city even if there is an unexpected change in Koelnmesse’s business model.
The previous lease agreement between Koelnmesse and the GbR will now be converted into a lease agreement between the Cologne Event Center and Koelnmesse. The purchase will be financed through the 30-year lease agreement with Koelnmesse itself, so that the city’s budget will not be burdened.
