PUPR Minister Explains Absence at Trans-Sumatra Toll Road Inauguration Event

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono opened his voice regarding his reasons for not accompanying President Joko Widodo in inaugurating the Trans-Sumatra toll road project some time ago.

He stated that his absence at the inauguration event was because he was on overseas service. He admitted that he went on a business trip to Tunisia and Portugal.

“I went to Tunisia and Portugal, just came home yesterday Saturday night. Then yesterday I went to Demak,” said Basuki at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (13/2/2024).

Basuki stated that he continued to work in President Joko Widodo’s government. He also stated that the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet was still solid.

“I’m continuing to work, that’s the order (to continue until the end). It’s still (solid) for me, I don’t have anything to do,” he explained.

Previously it was reported that Basuki was not present at a number of project inauguration events, one of which was when President Joko Widodo inaugurated two sections of the Trans-Sumatra toll road in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra Province, Wednesday (7/2/2024).

In fact, the minister who is often called Pak Bas has always accompanied President Jokowi when inaugurating infrastructure projects.

It was recorded that a number of officials were present at the inauguration of the Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi-Parapat section of the Tebing Tinggi-Indrapura toll road and the Indrapura-Kisaran section of the Indrapura-Limapuluh toll road at the Limapuluh toll gate.

They are Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi, Acting Governor of North Sumatra Hassanudin, Regent of Serdang Bedagai Darma Wijaya, Regent of Simalungun Radiapoh Hasiholan Sinaga, Regent of Asahan Surya, Acting Regent of Batubara Nizhamul, Acting Mayor of Tebing Tinggi Syarmadani, Main Director of PT Hutama Karya Budi Harto, and President Director of PT PP Novel Arsyad.

Also present was the Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Meutia Hafid on the agenda.
