Young dogs see toys in everything and nibble at everything they find. Even on euro notes. While Grégory was tinkering in his garage at home, his 8-month-old Golden Retriever managed to take a cash envelope from the counter. “I thought I had worked for nothing,” says the resident of Liège. Fortunately, the National Bank has come with good news in the meantime.

The cover contained a total of 2,000 euros worth of banknotes. A little less than half of the time, Grégory from Liège was able to recover. But a stack of notes worth around 1,100 euros was too badly damaged to be issued.

“The money served as an advance for a car. But when I entered the living room I didn’t know what I saw. Pieces of euro notes were everywhere. I tried to repair or reconstruct as many notes as possible with masking tape. But I assumed that it would not suffice and that they would be declared worthless.”

In his bank branch he was advised to contact the National Bank. There he got good news. “If the damage was involuntary and more than half of the note is left, it will be replaced free of charge and completely,” the National Bank said.
