The pride and joy of the students, teachers and parents’ council at the graduation ceremony at the Spessart elementary school in Bischbrunn was immense. As part of a sports day at the end of May, the children raised the record-breaking amount of 10,200 euros in a fundraising run solely through donations from the children’s family environment, without major sponsors. Half of this amount went to the “Parents’ initiative for children with leukemia and tumors in Würzburg” and half to the “MSP – Help for Ukraine” of the Rotary Club Lohr-Marktheidenfeld. Both organizations were selected by the parents’ association as recipients of this year’s charity run.
After the “school song” by the students, Vice President Christine Scherg welcomed the recipients of donations and the representatives of the parents’ council in the playground of the Spessart elementary school. She gave a review of the benefit event: On May 27, after a two-year break, a sports day could finally be held again. Various sports stations were set up all over the school grounds: parachute games, throwing cans, target shooting, roller board and scooter courses. “The highlight of the day was our SOS fundraiser,” says Scherg. In the weeks leading up to the run, the children were asked to look to their families for sponsors who would give a small donation for each 200-meter loop they ran in 15 minutes. “You really gave it your all, even though it was pretty hot that day,” Scherg said in retrospect.
The anticipation and then the joy at the result was correspondingly great: Four students unrolled the two checks for 5100 euros each, the one from Karl-Heinz Elflein for the “Parents’ initiative for children with leukemia and tumors in Würzburg”, and from Kerstin Schwarz, Monika Materna and Kerstin Eichhorn for the “MSP help for the Ukraine” of the Lohr-Marktheidenfeld Rotary Club were received with great joy and gratitude.
